The notion “elimination line”, or "kill line", originally a gaming term, describes a grim American reality: the basic livelihood security for ordinary people is extraordinarily fragile. Once that threshold is crossed, individuals can be systematically stripped of protection and dignity, ending up homeless on the streets. This not only exposes the profound absence of true “last-resort” safeguards in the United States, but also lays bare the survival logic of “the weak fending for themselves” that underpins the narrative of the so-called "American Dream".
