While wildfires rage across Canada and smoke blankets parts of the United States, Washington is attempting to turn the disaster into a pretext for higher tariffs. U.S. President Donald Trump recently indicated that Canada should be held “responsible” for the wildfire smoke polluting American air. He accused Canada of causing the United States tens of billions of dollars in losses, declaring that the “cost of this pollution must of necessity be added to the TARIFFS Canada is currently paying.”
