These fascinating photos of a family‘s adventures in Egypt， Russia and beyond provide a rare look into what holidays were like for the privileged and rich long before the days of Instagram filters and Facebook statuses。

The photographer， Friedrich Adolf Paneth， was born in Austria in 1887 to Jewish parents and went on to receive a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Vienna in 1910。

攝影師弗裏德里希·阿道夫·帕內特1887年出生在奧地利，他的雙親都是猶太人。1910年，帕內特獲得了維也納大學有機化學博士學位。

After marrying Else Hartmann， daughter of the historian Ludo Hartmann， in 1913， the pair set out for a four-month honeymoon in Cairo， where they saw sights like the Pyramid of Menkaure and the Temple of Deir el-Medina， and rode camels in the desert。

1913年帕內特取了歷史學家盧多·哈特曼之女埃爾澤·哈特曼為妻，而後他們前往開羅開始了長達4個月的蜜月旅行。在那裏，他們看到了蒙卡拉金字塔和德爾麥迪那神廟，還騎著駱駝橫穿沙漠。

Friedrich built an academic career on subjects from hydrides and meteorites to the philosophy of chemistry but managed to travel around his work。
