Recently, at the ferry terminal of Nanyang Ancient Town in Jining, east China's Shandong Province, several brand-new cruise ships are moored by the shore. The words "Qilu" (meaning "Shandong" in Chinese) printed on the hulls are faintly visible amid the mist. In a few days, Shandong's inland cruise ship named "Canal No.1" will set off on its maiden voyage here, marking the moment when the millennium-old Grand Canal powers Jining's tourism development.
Eight premium routes across Shandong will be launched during the cruise ship tours, six of which are located in Jining. These routes cover sightseeing from Nanyang Ancient Town to Guozhuang Port, lotus viewing tours at Huihe Wetland, and water town excursions circling Weishan Island, showcasing nearly all the most stunning scenery along the Jining section of the Grand Canal.

On land, 1,590 kilometers of tourist roads has been designed and constructed, providing access to all 95 of the city's A-rated scenic spots. For self-driving travelers, four themed routes—covering Confucian and Mencian study tours, Grand Canal excursions, "Red tourism" (revolutionary history) journeys, and countryside tours—precisely cater to diverse visitor groups, linking together attractions such as Zoucheng's mushrooms planting, Yutai County's crayfish tasting, and Yanzhou's flower fields.
